“It's an important match for us because we know that we have to convince people that we can do well in the big games,” said Arsène Wenger ahead of the trip to Manchester United. “We know too that, looking at the title, it’s an important place to make points.

“But people are sceptical about our results anyway so we can go there and play free.

“That’s what I want my team to do - go there and play knowing it will have an influence on the Premier League.

Eboue - It doesn't matter who we draw

By Chris Harris

Emmanuel Eboue says it doesn't matter who Arsenal are paired with in the next round of the Champions League.

The Ivorian and his team-mates will face either Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Schalke in the last 16 after finishing second in Group H with a 3-1 victory over Partizan Belgrade on Wednesday night.

Arsène Wenger has already labelled Barcelona as 'super-favourites' to win the competition after their 5-0 dismantling of Spanish rivals Real Madrid in El Clasico but Eboue believes Arsenal can make life difficult for any of their potential opponents in February.

"It doesn’t matter who we are going to play," he said. "The most important thing is to get everyone back and then to play for the team.

We are very focused now on the [Premier] League and we don’t focus on the [Champion League] draw. We will see. It doesn’t matter who [we play against], Barcelona, Bayern, it doesn’t matter. We just try to play our football.

Fabregas, Diaby unlikely to make Man Utd

Cesc Fabregas and Abou Diaby are back in training but they are unlikely to be fit for the crucial trip to Manchester United on Monday.

The Spaniard has been out with a hamstring problem since the defeat at Braga a fortnight ago. Diaby originally picked up his ankle problem during the 4-1 win over Bolton back on September 11. He has started two games since then but completed neither.

On Tuesday lunchtime, Wenger was conducting his press conference ahead of the massive match with Partizan Belgrade when the issue of Fabregas cropped up.

“He was out to practise today,” said the manager. “In fact he is still out there now.

“He has a small chance to play on Monday. That means it is a bit under 50 per cent at the moment.

“Diaby is out practising as well with him. He has a very small chance

The France international has followed up his October award with an even more emphatic win, scooping a mammoth 64.9 per cent of the votes cast in our official Club poll.
Samir enjoyed another stellar month for the Gunners. Oozing with confidence, he was Arsenal's creative hub and scored twice, including our Goal of the Month winner at Aston Villa.
Marouane Chamakh finished second in the November poll with 18.2 per cent of the votes. The Moroccan star won plenty of support after scoring four goals last month, including a brace at Wolves.

Wenger - It's still a young Carling Cup side

Arsène Wenger insists his Carling Cup team is as youthful as ever, it’s just not as obvious as before.
The manager’s policy of giving youngsters the opportunity to cut their teeth in previous seasons seems to have been overlooked on the surface this time around, though look a little deeper and you can see Wenger’s point.

Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs, Craig Eastmond and Wojciech Szczesny have all played their part this season alongside relative ‘old timers’ Theo Walcott, 21, and Denilson and Nicklas Bendtner, both 22. Hardly a team of veterans.

'The penalty decision was the turning point'

On a disappointing defeat...
We were not sharp enough to create clear-cut chances. Saturday's result had no knock-on effect because I had seven players who did not play and I had to rest some players. I think we had enough on the pitch to make a goal.
