Arshavin: Barca goal a career-defining moment

By Giuseppe Muro

Andrey Arshavin says his goal against Barcelona was a "crucial moment" in his career.

Never one to shy away on the big stage, the Russian curled home Samir Nasri's cut-back with seven minutes remaining to give Arsenal a 2-1 victory over the Spanish champions and spark pandemonium inside Emirates Stadium last Wednesday night.

The goal gave Arshavin's side a crucial first-leg lead in the Champions League last-16 tie and he knows his strike, and the celebration that followed, will live long in the memory.

"To score against Barcelona for any player is a very crucial moment, maybe in your career," said Arshavin. "It doesn't happen a lot, especially [because] it brought a win.
"When I came on I didn't feel special, I was just calm and when I had a chance I scored the goal. I did not change the game, I just took my chance. If I changed the game I would say.
"When I was sitting on the bench it looked very tough for us because Barcelona always have a lot of possession, that is why you must be patient.
"After the game I was very excited but now it is in the past and we have to be focused on the next game."

Arsenal vs Stoke

Arsen will play tonight with Stoke city Premier League. But Arsenal will miss Robin van Persie and Laurent Koscielny  The Dutch striker has a hamstring problem while the French defender is suffering from a back complaint. However both injuries are short-term and the pair may recover in time for the Carling Cup Final on Sunday. But many way we still have a lot of player will can use to night. They have to win to be in the same position.

Nasri suffers hamstring injury in FA Cup win

Samir Nasri is expected to be out for three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury on Sunday.

The French international pulled up while chasing a through-ball during the first half of Arsenal's 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town and was immediately replaced by Tomas Rosicky.

"Nasri looks to have a serious hamstring injury," confirmed Arsène Wenger after the game. "Usually it is three weeks [out], we have to see if it is a Grade One [strain] because that can be two [weeks].

"It is a big blow, how big I do not know because the results in the future will tell, but it is a big blow. Put three weeks to today's game and you will know [if he misses the Barcelona game]. I think yes."

Wenger made seven changes to his team for the FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Emirates Stadium but Nasri was a surprise starter. The manager explained why during his post-match press conference.

Walcott apologises over penalty incident

Theo Walcott has apologised to Arsène Wenger and Simon Grayson for diving in the final stages of Arsenal’s draw with Leeds on Saturday.

The winger was hauled down for the last-minute spot-kick that levelled the FA Cup Third Round tie. But, just before that, the home side had also claimed a penalty when the England international appeared to be felled by Alex Bruce. However, speaking afterwards, Walcott admitted he had not been clipped.
“I want to apologise to the managers because I actually dived,” said the 21-year-old. “I was trying to win the penalty.
“I said to one of their players ‘would you have done it?’ and he said he probably would have.
“I am not the sort of player to do it but I own up to it and apologise. It is something I don’t want to see in my game.
“I have heard some players say if there is a slight touch go down and it can work both ways. It was one of those things. I am not happy with myself for doing that but I am happy that we got the draw.
"I had a little joke with the referee afterwards saying ‘that was my first dive, can you tell?’
“I don’t have to own up to it and I can’t speak for other players but I have just expressed how I feel. I hope people respect that.”
Walcott did win a legitimate penalty a couple of minutes later and Arsenal nearly forced a dramatic winner in injury time when Denilson’s drive was turned aside.

“Yes, Kasper [Schmeichel] made some great saves and reminds me so much of his Dad,” said Walcott. “It was not really our day today but we could have won it at the end.”
